Our Percolator and Cherry Coffee from Door County

    09/04/2018
    Our Gear, Season 0 – Before Full-time

There really is nothing better than getting up early in the morning and sipping coffee as the sun rises.  This is also my “me” time, since Gary can sleep until noon if I let him!

I can work on editing pictures or videos (as I am this morning), or go for a walk outside when everything is quiet.  I love mornings (clarification – weekend and vacation day mornings, that is!).

And coffee is a requirement. Obviously.

The last (first!) time we boondocked, we were close to my parents at their seasonal campground site in Michigan.  Generators are noisy, and I didn’t want to make that kind of ruckus just to make a pot of coffee.  So I walked to my mom’s site to “borrow” their 110V power.  Every day.

Since coffee is a required part of my morning ritual and I won’t always have neighbors that may be ok with me mooching power to make coffee, I decided to get a percolator we can use on our RV stovetop.

    My lovely stovetop percolator!

It does take a little longer than the electric percolator, but BOY does it make good coffee.  I do cheat and still use a coffee filter to make cleanup easier, but many prefer to simply brew in the filter basket.

One simple hack – DON’T buy any specialized filters – get your standard filter wherever you shop and just poke a hole in the middle.

During our recent trip to Door County, we couldn’t help but stop try their cherry coffee.  And jam.  And dried cherries.  And oh, the cherry donuts.  An obvious warning – don’t go to this market when you’re hungry!

So, today’s one of those beautiful mornings.  Relaxing in my chair with a cup of cherry coffee freshly brewed, and a cherry donut (don’t judge me, ha!).  Gotta love those mornings…
