In this episode we explore several areas in southern UP – these are great day trips if you’re in the area!

    WHERE WE STAYED🛻⛺:

    Hog Island State Forest Campground

If you need hookups, then this is not your style. If you can handle dry camping, then you will LOVE this place – the views from many of the sites in this campground are just jaw-dropping awesome!

Just a short walk from our campsite

The campground is a first-come, first-serve place. We were there in late September and really didn’t have a lot of difficulty getting in, but I’m assuming weekend times might be a bit more difficult. It was $20 a night as well, which seems to be more of the going rate for dry camping in the UP. But I’m good with that given the views out our camper!

Cool rocks right on Lake Michigan!

    WHERE WE PLAYED:🐟🛶🚴‍♀️🥾

    Kitch-Iti-Kipi

A beautiful turquoise-colored spring in southern UP. A little bit tourist trap-ey but still worth the visit. They have a cool raft to slowly go over the spring which gives you better views of the bubbling water. Just be aware that you will likely be there with a goodly amount of other folks. But relax and enjoy the scenery which is downright gorgeous.

    Manistique Boardwalk and Lighthouse

A fun 2-ish mile walk along the Lake Michigan coast with a boardwalk all the way out to the lighthouse.

Part of the Boardwalk at Manistique

I wasn’t really excited to go out initially since it was windy that day but SO glad I decided to try – the boulders to get to the breakwater were fun to climb and the lighthouse itself was worth it.

    WHERE WE ATE: 🍽️🥩🍹🍺🍽️

    Moofinfries

A fun lunch restaurant in Naubinway, MI with locally sourced beef and fish. Some seriously good sandwiches and hand-cut fries. It’s a little like Five Guys but with fish sandwiches and better ingredients. And if you’re passing through and don’t need a full meal, their ice cream selection looked quite good!
