You know those *LOVELY* projects that you get to do over and over and over? Well, we’re hoping this will be the last time with this recurring bathroom stink issue. We’re installing a HepvO Sanitary Waste Valve.

We are FAR from being experts in plumbing, and there’s probably a MUCH better way to do this. But based upon the parts we could get our hands on, we got it to work.
Here’s our not-so-technical diagram of what we used:

Note that all of the links (minus the HepvO valve) are from Ace hardware, since that’s where we ended up getting our parts that day. There are similar parts on Amazon but they’re so much more expensive I didn’t want to place links here. Go to your local hardware store to get these parts and save some cash.
HepvO Valve – This is an 1 1/2″ version. I see on Amazon that there’s a 1 1/4″ version but I think that may have some different adapters. Couldn’t find enough to figure it out.
Sink Trap Repair Kit – We had purchased our sink repair kit from Ace Hardware since that was the only hardware store around. Amazon does not have great prices on plumbing, so I’d suggest your local hardware store. This is still a 1 1/2″ P-Trap but definitely looked smaller than the Host one. Gary ended up using the 90 degree fitting from the HepvO valve, so you can probably just get away with buying a P trap itself rather than the kit.
1 1/2″ Extension Tube – Gary used a portion of this to help with the
Fernco Rubber Fitting – Gary used this close to the “T” split at the back of the vanity along with the extension tube on the left to get a decent leak-free connection. So far, so good! *crossing fingers*
1 1/2″ Pipe Cap – Take off that useless Studor valve and put this cap on. It will make you feel better immediately!
Did it work?
The best way to know is to watch our video, but, YES. It’s been about 3 or so weeks since we installed it and we have not had ANY bathroom stank – regardless of whether we had our MaxxAir fans in takeoff mode or not (when our fans were high, we tended to get the smell more). So very excited about it that I’ll be working on harassing Gary to do the kitchen sink as well – whoever thinks that gray tank smell isn’t as bad as black tank smell hasn’t dumped RV tanks! 😉
But… if anything changes, I’ll let you know!
