Snowy Hike to an Abandoned Mine in a Forest! | Oregon RV Travels | e133

    06/11/2023
    2023, Idaho, Oregon, Season 5 – Go WEST(ish)!, Utah

We’re heading to Oregon! We have some work planned on our truck camper and will take some time to explore while we’re waiting on parts. And we found some *pretty interesting* places to explore!

After looking around, the Ochoco Mountains seemed to be the perfect place to stay for a little and explore. We looked for a campsite close to some hiking trails. Check out the video to see how it went!

    Our Camping Locationsβ›ΊπŸ—ΊοΈπŸ“Œ

We’re sharing our camping and other locations on iOverlander (boondocking, etc.) and Campendium (established campsites).

βœ…Off Black Pine Road, Oneida County, ID (iOverlander)

    βœ…Camping World, Meridian, ID (iOverlander)

βœ…Off South Remington Road, Redmond, OR (iOverlander)

βœ…Off NE Remington Road, Redmond OR (iOverlander)

βœ…Tumalo State Park, Bend, OR (Campendium)

    βœ…Ochoco National Forest (iOverlander)

We also have a currently free map on Google with all of the places we’ve stayed along with the related video and links to more detailed reviews on iOverlander , Campendium and Google Maps.

    Our Hiking Trails🚢🏻πŸ₯ΎπŸšΆπŸ»β€β™‚️

βœ…Tumalo State Park to Riley Ranch – Not sure why this was considered moderate beyond the fact that it was 7 miles long. Lots of areas of shade as your winding along with the river.

βœ…Independent Mine (not on AllTrails, used Google Maps)

We started at the Lookout Mountain Upper Trailhead, then walked up Lookout Mountain Road.  The road is fairly steep and was muddy/snowy when we went so we did not take our truck & camper.  Low tree branches would limit our rig but maybe something shorter.  The Independent Mine is on the east side of the road, down a mile or so.  Some of the buildings are easily seen from the road, so you shouldn’t miss it.

During our stay, there was a lot of snow, mud and water around. Not sure if that’s a year-round thing or just because it was during the thaw.

There’s no real “trail” to speak of, beyond walking up the NF road.  We explored several of the buildings and wandered around a bit.

Pretty fun place to explore – make sure to find the outhouse!  πŸ™‚
