Is Capitol Reef National Park worth Visiting? | Utah RV Travels | e129

    05/21/2023
    2023, Season 5 – Go WEST(ish)!, Utah

This week we’re out exploring Capitol Reef National Park. They have some pretty amazing hikes and views here along with some great places to camp for free and explore!

    โ›บ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ๐Ÿ“ŒOur Camping Locations

We’re sharing our camping and other locations on two sites:

โœ…iOverlander – We post mainly boondocking sites as well as dump stations, water, laundry etc. . This app can be used without cellular signal!

โœ…Campendium – We post mainly established campgrounds. This app has cellular signal overlays on the paid version (when you have a cell signal)

We also have a currently free map on Google that has all of the places where we’ve stayed along with the related video and links to more detailed reviews on iOverlander , Campendium and Google Maps.

West Side of the Park Entrance

This was a pretty large area with several sites. Some cell service, but the road is a bit rutted and rocky. When we visited in April, it was getting pretty packed by evening so don’t wait until dusk to arrive.

Check out our previous video where we stay on the east side, which seemed to be a bit less populated but no cell service. Pick your poison!

    ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป๐Ÿฅพ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธOur Hiking Trails

    Capitol Reef Scenic Drive

We’d recommend to start here – it gives you a great view of the terrain in the area and you don’t need to work up a sweat!

    Cohab Canyon Trail

A great trail to get some pretty scenic views in Capitol Reef. The switchbacks at the beginning are a little rough, but remember you get to go downhill back.

    Frying Pan Trail

We ended up trying this trail after a failed attempt to go to the Hickman Bridge trail, which was *quite* full. We didn’t make it the entire way but we’re so glad we chose this hike – we saw maybe a small handful of folks out here the entire time we were out and, oh the views!
