Vehicle insurance isn’t fun, and it’s even more challenging when you wind up with a commercial truck for your RV. Check out this video to ensure you’re insured – we weren’t!

    Quick Background

We have a 2020 Ram 5500 which is currently insured through Progressive Commercial Insurance. We’ve used them since 2020. Our “garage” address is located in central Florida.

    Urgent Response Needed

This whole saga began with us receiving the below letter asking for us to confirm our “radius of operation”. Although they were vague, they were wanting to confirm the distance from our “garage”, which is in central Florida. Our current insurance had the existing radius of operation at 100 miles.

While they wouldn’t exactly say I wasn’t covered, they just asked if we drive outside of that radius, and I said YES. I was in California at the time we received the letter. We immediately changed our insurance to an “unlimited” radius, which shows up as “greater than 500 miles”.

But then I got the updated bill for 2025 and kinda choked a bit. In 2024, we had a bill o

    MAJOR increase of Insurance

I made this change in early April and our annual premium increased dramatically. The response I received was that it was a combination of the radius of operation change and the insurance increases in Florida.

For comparison, my 2023/2024 annual bill was $2486 – a whopping increase of $817! Around $450 of this was for the increase of the radius of operation, the other was related to the crazy increase in Florida insurance.

Insurance tends to frustrate you perpetually, and this time is no different. *sigh*. If you want to see comments from others, make sure to check out the YouTube video comments – I found those quite helpful and will *hopefully* be making another lovely video on insurance soon!
