We made a big purchase back in July 2023 to install a (Planar) Autoterm 2D Diesel heater in our truck camper. We’ll share some of the pros and cons of this unit, and why we believe it’s not the right fit for our truck camper.

    Stuff we Bought:

Autoterm 2D Diesel Heater –This is the diesel heater that we purchased. This didn’t work out well, so make sure to watch the video.

High-Volume Fan – We used 2 of these fans underneath the dinette to help pull in air from the outside – one right at the inlet near the diesel heater, and another mid-way to help push any ambient air into the return. We ended up removing the one near the inlet because these do have some noise. We don’t hear the one that was in the middle, though.

Since we used the power harness from the diesel heater, we ended up grabbing the 12V power lead that used to feed our old Suburban propane furnace. We used a panel switch (shown below) to manually turn it on and off.

Quiet Fan – We use 2 of these underneath our fireplace to help push air into our basement. We have one pointing upwards, and the other downwards to help promote circulation. These are a little smaller than the high-volume fan above and are a lot quieter. I’d recommend these fans if you’re concerned about excess noise.

Panel Rocker Switch – We used this panel-mounted rocker switch to power the fans below our dinette area, where the diesel heater was located. These are 20A rated, so these had ample capacity.

Set of 3″ Louvers – We’re using 2 of these on the sides of our fireplace to help promote pushing heat down into our basement of our camper.
