You can drive WHERE?! Navajo National Monument, Monument Valley & Valley of the Gods! | e123

    04/16/2023
    2023, Arizona, Season 5 – Go WEST(ish)!, Utah

Talk about a trifecta – Navajo National Monument, Monument Valley AND Valley of the Gods! Come join us this week as we go through these wonderful locations!!

    โ›บ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ๐Ÿ“ŒOur Camping Locations

We’re sharing our camping and other locations on two sites:

โœ…iOverlander – boondocking sites as well as dump stations, water, laundry etc.

    โœ…Campendium – mainly established campgrounds

We also have a currently free map on Google that has all of the places where we’ve stayed along with the related video and links to more detailed reviews on iOverlander , Campendium and Google Maps.

Sunset View Campground (Free), Kayenta, AZ

This is a perfect overnight location in between the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. The campground is first-come, first-serve and free. Sites did vary a bit in levelness. There’s trash cans on each site – that’s crazy awesome, with picnic tables and grills.

And you’re walking distance to the National Monument Visitor Center which has a few short but worthwhile hikes right behind it. Would absolutely stay here again.

Oh, size is everything here – I wouldn’t try anything bigger than 30′ and that might be a stretch based upon your comfort level.

    Our campsite for 2 nights

But, the best part is being able to see the Betatakin cliff dwelling on the hike behind the visitor center.

We, unfortunately, were there before Memorial Day, so we weren’t able to hike down to see the site up-close. But you can if you’re visiting between Memorial Day and Labor Day!

San Juan River BLM, Bluff, UT

We stopped here for a few days (again to wait out some weather). Nice area but you are exposed to winds.

Our site for a few days

We ended up walking around the area, and you have a lot to walk to. We found this bluff that is right near the river – definitely worth a trek!

BLM Land off Needles Overlook Road (Near La Sal, UT)

This was a pretty fantastic place to stay overnight. There are many other places to camp in this area but we had a hard time finding one that was reasonably level and had at least a little bit of cell service. This one fit the bill

Our campsite for a few days

We did walk up the back portion of this rock formation, which was pretty cool. Super quiet, just be aware of the cow pies!
