If you’ve been watching us on the YouTubes, you know we’ve had a few times where our gray tank valve has frozen shut in the winter and we had to drag out my trusty blow drier to get things flowing. Well, I think we found a *fabulous* solution, as long as you don’t forget the other winter tasks! But you’ll have to watch the video for that nugget!

Installation was pretty straightforward (once we bought the right switch) and it works exactly as expected. I’m feeling better about having this on our rig as we continue to try and do more cold-weather camping in the future!

By the way, we have no affiliation with Ultraheat but wanted to share our good experience with the product.

    STUFF WE BOUGHT🛻⛺:

Ultraheat Gate Valve Heater 1.5″ drain pipe – This is the heat strip we purchased for our gray tank. Although meant to go around a more smooth gate valve, this still seemed to do the trick on our OEM gray tank valve on our Host Cascade.

You can also purchase one for a 3″ drain pipe here!

Inline Fuse Kit – We purchased something like this from Home Depot, but this one was on our list if we couldn’t find it locally. I like that this one uses 14AWG wire and the mini ATC fuses which match the fuses in the camper as well.

We’re using a 10A fuse in our circuit to account for the switch maximum rating.

Rocker Sw – We now have 4 of these in our basement (gate valve heater, heated battery enable, TPMS extender, and basement fans. There aren’t many flush-mount switches available, but this one seems to work well. Note these are 10A switches, so you want to fuse based upon the switch.

14AWG wire – We have several spools of this in 16 and 14AWG and it gets the job done. We did choose 14AWG because it was going to be a reasonably long run.

This is also nice since the power and ground are physically connected, making routing a bit friendlier.
