Well, we didn’t have the best of luck in getting a fancy permit to hike the Tallulah Falls Gorge floor. Kind of disappointed but wasn’t completely surprising due to the rain mid-week.

Luckily we decided to plan an alternate hike just for this contingency. There is a longer hike that goes from the Interpretive center down to a boat launch on Tugaloo Lake, just east of the park. This lake actually is on the Georgia / South Carolina state border!

The above hike is called the Stoneplace Trail, which is a bit over 8 miles out and back (from the Interpretive Center) and does have some reasonably steep inclines and declines. We were initially surprised that this trail required a permit until we looked closer and it goes through the Tallulah Wildlife Management Area. It makes sense that it’s permitted due to potential hunting in the area certain times of the year.

All I can say is stick to the trail and keep it as an in-and-out trail. Don’t try to make it a loop trail (as we did in the video). 😀
